This decision to go remote for the remainder of the week was due to “a number of threats” towards the students. The school district did not share details on how they addressed the actions of its student due to “privacy concerns.” The sign went viral on Facebook and read;

"If I was Black I'd be picking cotton, but I'm White so I'm picking you. Prom?"

According to KARE11, the Big Lake Schoo District issued a statement saying they were “evaluating it under any and all applicable School District policies and will take whatever action is necessary and appropriate to address the situation.”

After the April 27th incident, the school district “had numerous conversations with local law enforcement…working quickly to resolve this issue.” The school district is also “committed to ensuring that all students and staff are treated equally and can attend school and report to work in a comfortable and welcoming environment."
